The Artist:

Vincent Meyburgh is a Cape Town-based artist, theatre maker, and musician whose creative life spans more than three decades. A graduate of UCT and co-founder of Jungle Theatre Company, his work has been exhibited across South Africa and in the Netherlands, and performed at festivals including Makhanda, Klein Karoo Kunstefees, and the BIBU International Theatre Festival in Sweden. His paintings combine acrylic and oil with found natural objects, drawing from the improvisational spirit of theatre and music to create spontaneous, organically formed works that seek to deepen the connection between our inner and outer worlds.

Born from a walk on a hot summer’s day, Julliette began with collected seawater and beach sand brought back to the studio. Layer upon layer of colour builds an underwater world in motion — seaweed trailing with the current, coral holding firm against it, and one small shark swimming freely against the stream. Vincent’s characteristic process of growing a natural environment on canvas and allowing its creatures to emerge gives this work a sense of genuine discovery. Named with affection for the little shark who made herself at home, Julliette is an invitation to let a piece of the ocean find a home with you.
