The Power of Partnership: Lunchbox Theatre & Naledi Foundation in Langa
Some of the most meaningful work happens when organisations step outside their own walls and create something together. No single organisation has every skill, every relationship, or every piece of the puzzle, but partnerships fill those gaps. Different communities, different strengths, different creative approaches: when they combine, the result is richer and more dynamic than either group could build alone, and it reaches further into the communities it’s meant to serve. Collaboration also builds something that lasts beyond a single project: trust between organisations, new relationships between young people, and a model others can learn from and replicate. This April, that idea came to life through a touring partnership between Lunchbox Theatre and the Naledi Foundation in Langa, Cape Town.
The week began with a meet-and-greet between performers from both organisations, mapping out the shape of the collaboration ahead, before moving into a full schedule of school visits, workshops, and performances. We worked alongside young artists from Langa and Naledi’s mentor groups, building toward two standout shows: a school performance and a community show at the Zone 25 shed, where LBT, the Naledi mentor group, and an invited dance group all shared the stage. Each group brought their own water awareness show to life through drama, dance, and song. Two different skill sets, one shared message, and a clear example of how much further young people can be reached when organisations choose to work together rather than alone. We’re so grateful to STAND Foundation for making this touring partnership possible, and to Naledi Foundation for welcoming LBT into the Langa community with such warmth and energy. Here’s to many more journeys like this one.
