Dog
By Hermann Niebuhr

The Artist:
Hermann Niebuhr is a South African painter known for his classical oil paintings depicting the urban texture of Johannesburg and the stark beauty of the Karoo. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Rhodes University with distinction, and went on to co-found Lilian Road Studios in Fordsburg, working for many years as a full-time painter and teacher. His work has been exhibited widely locally and internationally, and is held in private and public collections. In 2020 he relocated to De Rust in the Klein Karoo, where he established the Black Mountain Retreat, a space dedicated to creative and personal development at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains. His paintings are quietly informed by his explorations of spirituality and human potential.
